Phylogenetic perspective
Asserts that the contemporary behavior and behavior-potential of the species Homo sapiens is a function in an as yet unspecified way of interactions over the millennia between humankind's biological state and experience. The phylogenetic perspective is often symbolized by the quasi-mathematical formula B h= f( BxE), where Bhis the behavior potential of humans, f is "a function of," B is biological state, and E is experience. The product symbol (x) conveys the idea of an interaction between elements within the parentheses. In effect, this perspective recognizes an almost inextricable interaction between nature and nurture.
